Do it like Whitney

I watched The City's first season 2 episode tonight, I know it isn't exactly quality tv, but I thought it was really good; Whitney does a fashion show for her Whitney Eve collection, and it was surprisingly good. Especially the outfit she was wearing. I adore the pastels, her accessories and how she edged out the look with black nailpolish. Add a tan and waving locks.

More denim

Personally, I love denim. There is nothing I like more than buying/wearing/mix-and-matching a good pair of jeans. This week's net-a-porter magazine is all about denim and is a really fun issue to read (go to http://www.net-a-porter.com/magazine). What inspired me for tomorrow's outfit - I'm going to Cologne, Germany with my school - is these two pictures. The first one is from the net-a-porter magazine shoot, the second one is a screenshot of The Sixteen Year Old Virgin episode of Gossip Girl: denim shorts+blazer!
My favorite (more affordable) denim brands: G-star, Diesel, Acne
My favorite (I-wish-I-could-afford) denim brands: J Brand, 7 for all mankind

I love this look: Chiara

She wears the leather short really really well, especially combined with that lovely top. See that Chanel tattoo she got on her left arm?

I need to have that American Apparel tshirt ASAP! They didn't have it the last time I was in the Antwerp store though... maybe I should order it.

New York Times on Fashion

I was googling around for a bit, and I stumbled upon an article, by Cintra Wilson, published November 18, 2008. These to fragments capture fashion in its essence.

There are light years of difference between serious designer clothing and the stuff we buy in malls, hence the vast differences in affordability. It’s the same gulf that resides between mayonnaisey hotel paintings that chimps could be trained to create with a spatula, and the stuff in the permanent collection at the Met. If you squint really hard, the high-end stuff and low-end stuff can look fairly similar, but the fundamental difference is in the artistic energy invested in the garment or the painting itself. Bad art won’t revive your soul.

You don’t have to own monstrously beautiful, prohibitively expensive Oscar de la Renta garments any more than you need to own a genuine Kandinsky. But your life can generally be improved just by knowing such gorgeous stuff exists. That Keats guy said it: “Beauty is truth, truth beauty — that is all/Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”

Heidi's creepy surgery

STEP 1

STEP 2

Oh my God. I don't usually post celebrity gossip crap but this I just had to share. I was watching the trailer of the last season of The Hills, and I was SHOCKED when I saw Heidi's face. I immediately thought of Donatella Versace. I mean, we all know that Heidi went from sweet Laguna darling to real California Bimbo (horseface, and those boobs, eew..) halfway through the series, but that was nothing until this. It's sad to see someone really addicted to plastic surgery. She is in her twenties, and she has had her eyebrows pulled back. What is that all about? You see older women making huge mistakes trying desperately to look younger, but she is young, so why mess up your face like that? May we all see this as an example; when you've crossed the line like this, there is no way back. May nobody have such a deranged self image you'd do something like this.

Zara lookbook

These are pictures from the Zara Lookbook I found on My Daily Style. No idea how she got those, but I'm glad she has them, the Zara website doesn't work on my computer.. Anyway. I have that striped blazer, and I think it looks gorgeous styled like that. I also adore that asymmetric draped dress! I haven't seen it in any of the Zara stores in Antwerp but it is divine.

I found her on the website of Vogue Paris, in the feature "Le tour du monde en 45 blogs" (that also featured StyleScrapbook, Fashion Nerdic and This Chick's Got Style). This beautiful girl is Spanish and really is an amazing source of inspiration.

LOST: Tiffany key!!!!

I just got back from my boyfriend's place (whose family is away till tomorrow) where I have spent the last five days. That's why there haven't been any posts :).
Anyway, Tuesday we went shopping. I was trying on a sweater at Zara, and at the cash registers I pulled it over my head again, Tiffany Key included ... I didn't hear nor see it fall ... :'( we left Zara and went outside. By the time I realised my necklace was missing and we had runned back, it was already gone ... :'(. I cried so hard. Therefore, I am asking you, my readers, have you, or anyone of your friends, seen and/or taken it? I am rewarding whoever returns it with €100. It was Tuesday, April 6th, in the Zara on the Meir in Antwerp. Please I am asking you, if you know anything about it, please contact me. It is the exact same key as in the picture, a silver trefoil one with a very long oval link chain on it. Thank you.
Astrid.

Easter

I hope you all had a lovely Easter!

Picture: Gemma Ward for Hermès Spring 06. It is one of my favorite advertisements of all time, it hangs on my wall in my room. I will do a post on her soon, she was the very first model I ever really knew and followed and loved.

Chanel Le Vernis pour l'été

Chanel’s summer makeup collection won’t be on shelves for another month, but I sure am already lusting for Les Pop-Up by Peter Philips. Nouvelle Vague maybe reminds us a little bit of Jade, but I still think it's a cool colour. A little less mint and a little more aquamarine.

Acne in Antwerp

Picture: Fashionista

We all saw the lovely Dutch bloggers (Andy from Style Scrapbook, Sabrina from afterDRK, Yara from This chick's got style) invited at the opening of a brand new Acne store. I can't wait to go take a look! I love how in the picture it looks like there are sunrays coming out of the store itself..!
